Swinging for Success

Golf Classic

The Marvin Blades Memorial Classic is an annual fundraiser to support and empower youth through the mentoring and summer youth programs of 100 Black Men of Tulsa.

Named in honor of the late officer Marvin Blades Sr., the classic is one of the leading local golf fundraisers dedicated to raising support for underserved youth and helps us fund education programs throughout the year.

For the last three years, we have had around 60 golfers participate from the Tulsa area with plans to increase the number next year.

About Marvin Blades Sr.

Officer Blades tirelessly volunteered his time and energy to mentoring and helping thousands of students in Tulsa Public Schools with a specific focus on North Tulsa students. His life was dedicated to working with a gang task force to prevent young men from getting involved in gangs or getting in trouble. He also taught karate to at-risk students in north Tulsa and went the extra mile to bring them exposure by taking them to compete in regional competitions.

According to his daughter, Marvin Blades, he used the sport to instill discipline in the children and to show them they had options in life. As a former president of 100 Black Men of Tulsa, his work was instrumental in helping developing fundraisers and additional programs for the organization.

The Course

Located in the beautiful city of Owasso, the classic will take place on over 200 acres at the Bailey Ranch Golf Course.  With as many as four and five tee boxes per hole, serious players can accept the challenge from the black championship tees or ease into their game from the white markers. Pace of play is enhanced by yardages marked on tee signs, sprinkler heads, fairway plates, and cart paths; as well as daily pin sheets showing exact hole locations.

The Classic

The classic is a four-man best ball scramble format which has been traditionally held the 2nd Saturday in July at the Bailey Ranch Golf Course in Owasso, OK. It has been strategically organized to cultivate a perfect balance of challenge, skill, and fun. Local and regional golfers are invited to participate and we also have a division available for adults and youth.
